We bought Argyll House in July 2020. We were well aware of what we were taking on - the leaking roof, the rotten timbers, the damp, no heating, melting electrical wires, the 'bathroom of death' and the hall (which we're pretty certain they used in the film The Shining?), but nothing could prepare us for the sheer amount of work needed to turn Argyll House into the Boutique Bed and Breakfast we had dreamt of.
First things first. The roof had to come off completely. This was complemented by the wettest autumn and the coldest winter we could remember, and with nothing between our bedroom and the cold nights except a tarpaulin; only our dogged optimism and a sense of denial kept us going. But roof repairs progressed and slowly but surely the house became water tight.
The renovation of the internal structure proved to be just as challenging but no less rewarding! Minimal electricity, washing up in the bath, extension cords with a mind of their own, and dust; so much dust. Of course, all this during was going on during the covid pandemic! Character building stuff, I hear you say. Maybe so, but we are pretty sure this is not something we will ever repeat.... Nevertheless, here we are, Argyll House Bed and Breakfast!
We couldn't be more proud of how far we've come and the accommodation we have created. We can't wait to welcome you.
